Myelomeningocele

Myelomeningocele is a kind of birth problem where the back bone and spinal canal did not close properly at the pregnancy period. This problem is a type of spina bifida. In the early stage of pregnancy period, the two sides of the backbone are combined. This combination is necessary to cover properly the spinal nerves and spinal cord. This problem occurs when the bones present in the spinal cord is not completely formed. This condition leads to incomplete spinal canal. This problem is not common birth defects. It gives the complications such as lack of sensation, loss of bladder, body weakness, abnormal legs, clubfoot, hydrocephalus, etc. Doctor’s will take the necessary test to identify the condition and make a genetic counseling with the pregnant lady. If the problem is severe, then abortion is needed.
