Wedding GiftsBuying wedding gifts is a problem that most people have because they do not know what to buy for the happy couple. The usual gift that you will find is money in a wedding card because this gives the couple the opportunity to spend the money in whatever way they want. They can use it to pay the wedding expenses, have a honeymoon or even use it for a down payment on a house. When wedding gifts are opened following the wedding it is often quite funny to find that so many people choose to give the same gift, such as coffee makers, kettles and toasters. Probably these are the easiest and least expensive gifts to buy and many department stores will allow exchanges for something that is needed. This is the reason most couples now choose to register at a gift registry and include the card with the invitation. Guests can then contact the store or log onto the website and choose a gift that the couple really wants. Just because a gift registry card is included with the invitation does not mean that the guests do have to purchase at that store, but at least they will have an idea of what the couple would like to receive. There are wedding gifts that are welcomed in multiple amounts. Bed sheets and bath towels, for example, are items that you can never have enough of. The same thing applies to dishes and glassware. Many couples start their married lives together with only the basic supplies of kitchen utensils and dishes and then find it embarrassing when they have guests drop in because they do not have enough plates or cups for everyone. Larger wedding gifts, such as large appliances, are often given as gifts by the parents of the bride or groom. Sometimes, certain wedding expenses, such as the cost of the photographer/videographer or the supper, are paid for by the parents as part of their gift. This makes it easier for the couple to have a large wedding and invite more of their friends and family to the reception. Because many couples now live together before they get married, they often request that wedding gifts be in a monetary form. This makes it very easy for guests because they do not have to spend hours shopping for a certain gift. The card requesting that money be given as a gift can be included in the invitation and in today’s changing world, it is not considered tacky or in bad taste. It saves time for the couple to have to return gifts for exchange at stores because they already have everything they need to start their lives together. Even if it is specified that the couple would prefer to have money, they can still expect to receive other gifts, especially from friends who come across something that the couple does not have. The bride and groom often give wedding gifts to their attendants and parents as a way of saying “Thank you” for all the help they have given them. The groom usually buys something for the groomsmen – cufflinks, small flasks, key chains, etc- while the bride looks after the bridesmaids with gifts of jewelry. The parents are not left out, with the fathers receiving the same gifts as the groomsmen and the mothers receiving flowers or jewelry. Many couples give a plaque that expresses their gratitude to their parents for all their love and devotion through the years. Wedding gifts can take many forms, from household to novelty items. There are many different types of unique gifts that are suitable for weddings depending on the giver and the couple that is receiving it.
